Bring fiber directly to the desktop with this PCI-E Fiber Adapter. Engineered for reliability and performance, it lets a standard PC harness the speed and distance advantages of fiber optics. Designed for high-end workstation demands, it delivers up to 200 Mbps of full-duplex bandwidth, enabling responsive file transfers, robust data streaming, and consistent network performance in enterprise, lab, or design environments. With 100BASE-FX fiber technology and a multimode SC connector, this adapter offers a straightforward upgrade path for desktops that require fiber connectivity without replacing existing network infrastructure.

  • High-speed fiber throughput — Up to 200 Mbps full-duplex bandwidth supports demanding applications, ensuring smooth data transfers, efficient backups, and reliable network performance in busy workstations and small to mid-size networks.
  • PCI-E desktop integration — Installs in a standard PCI Express slot, adding fiber capability to a desktop PC without a full motherboard replacement. It’s an ideal upgrade for creative workstations, scientific workstations, and enterprise PCs that need fiber access at the edge.
  • 100BASE-FX with Multimode SC — Uses a robust multimode fiber interface with an SC connector for flexible, cost-effective fiber deployment over relatively short to moderate distances, delivering stable performance in controlled environments.
  • Low power consumption — Engineered for efficiency, helping to reduce overall system heat and power usage while maintaining dependable network throughput for continuous operation scenarios.
  • Enterprise-grade reliability and compatibility — Built to handle demanding workloads with a focus on consistent performance, compatibility with common OS environments, and easy integration into existing fiber networks.

  • Reliability and environment — Built to operate under standard office and lab conditions with robust connectors and connectors designed for reliable fiber coupling over extended use.

how to install Black Box PCI-E Fiber Adapter

  • Power down the computer and unplug the power cord. Remove the case cover to access the motherboard and PCIe slots.
  • Locate an available PCI Express slot (x1, x4, x8, or x16 as supported by your motherboard) and insert the PCI-E fiber adapter firmly into the slot until it seats securely.
  • Secure the card with a chassis screw if your case design requires it to prevent movement during operation.
  • Reconnect the case and power up the system. If your operating system requires drivers, install them from the manufacturer’s provided media or official website. Follow on-screen prompts to complete installation.
  • Connect your fiber optic cable to the SC connector on the adapter using a compatible multimode SC fiber patch cord. Ensure the other end is connected to the corresponding fiber networking device or switch.
  • Power on the network device and the computer, then verify link status through the operating system’s network settings or the adapter’s utility, confirming a stable connection and expected throughput.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is 100BASE-FX? A: 100BASE-FX is a Fast Ethernet standard that uses fiber-optic cables to transmit data at 100 Mbps. It is known for good distance performance and resistance to electromagnetic interference, making it suitable for offices and labs with fiber deployments.
  • Q: What type of fiber does this adapter use? A: It uses multimode fiber with an SC connector, which is common for shorter-range fiber networks and easy terminations in standard office environments.
  • Q: Can I use this adapter in any PCIe slot? A: The adapter is designed for standard PCI Express slots. Verify your motherboard specifications to ensure compatibility with the available slot type and space within the case.
  • Q: Do I need drivers? A: Depending on your operating system and hardware configuration, driver installation may be required. Check the vendor's support site or installation media for the latest drivers and instructions.
  • Q: Is this suitable for high-throughput workloads? A: This adapter provides up to 200 Mbps full-duplex bandwidth, which is appropriate for many legacy Fast Ethernet and fiber-backed edge deployments and environments where fiber reliability and distance are priorities, though it is not a substitute for gigabit or 10 Gigabit Ethernet in bandwidth-heavy applications.
  • Q: Can I mix this with copper Ethernet adapters? A: Yes, in most networks you can integrate fiber-based adapters alongside copper-based NICs, but ensure proper network design, compatibility with the switch or router, and appropriate fiber cabling where used.

Good to have if you've never seen the iTEP exam, but don't rely on it to boost your scores
Format: Paperback
This book is good in that it comes with two practice tests: one in the beginning of the book, one in the end of the book. The grading rubric is helpful too. However, the actual guide part of the book, doesn't help too much with how to improve test scores. What I like least about this guide is that it won't tell you which questions you answered incorrectly on the practice exams. A good test prep guide will tell you what you answered incorrectly, and will tell you what logic to follow to get to the correct answer. In the reading passages, it would be nice to know where I can find evidence to justify the "correct" answer. In the grammar section, it would be nice to know which rule I'm violating. Any test guide should always come with some testing strategies. I.E. If this question is taking up too much time, skip it and go to the next one. This guide lacks simple strategies like that. Simple strategies like that could be useful when incorporated into this guide because there are certain sections on the exam that you can go back to previous questions, but some sections where the "back" button is disabled. Overall, if you've never seen an iTEP exam before, this book is certainly helpful in that it will give you an idea of what you will be testing for. However, this book alone won't help you achieve a score of 6. The table of contents itself will tell you there are only 86 pages of actual content covering test material. That's not enough to cover how to excel in the exam.

Don't buy it
Format: Paperback
It does not prepare for the real test. Using it is absolutely not enough to be approved with good grades. Too expensive for what it offers.
