Nisha Gupta: Overcoming Adversity, Winning Medals, and Redefining Possibilities
Discover Nisha Gupta's remarkable journey from a life-altering incident to becoming a Paralympic athlete, breaking barriers and proving that dreams have no limits.

Nisha Gupta, born in Varanasi and brought up in Mumbai. She had been an adventurous child and was well known for her mischiefs. But one incident changed her life completely. While being tempted to pluck the mangoes from a tree. She plunged and got her spine badly injured along with a severe head injury. Her family got dumbstruck with the terror of knowing that there was no sensation in her legs. She was immediately rushed to a hospital which was almost at a driving distance of two hours. While she got her stitches done on her head, the doctor declared she will have no control over her bowel and bladder movements.

Maybe God had other plans as the complications only augmented with the weeks and the months passing by. This complete procedure took a toll on her physical as well as her mental health. Her hope of standing back on her legs became a wish when the doctors confirmed that she would be in the wheelchair for her entire life.

Her breakdown was expected. But after 4 years of living with this misery, she was recommended to Nina Foundation whose objective is to rekindle hope and optimism amongst those who have suffered a spinal cord injury.

Her Turning Point,

That one fine day when she saw a group of paraplegics and quadriplegics on wheelchairs under one roof at an awareness program, she realized she wasn’t the only one amongst all. Although she had accepted the hardships life gave her, but her zeal sheltered her dreams because she chose to fight with her reality audaciously. Dr. Ketna Mehta has been her inspiration, who showed her a new life. This helped her to experiment with her taste in different fields and build expertise in more than one. From doing a data entry job to learning tattoo designing, wheelchair dancing, para-swimming, para-badminton. She even participated in the Miss Wheelchair India 2013 contest. She is still fond of acting and modeling. She proved it takes the will to become skilled.
